Universal Pictures has found their new spy for The Bourne Legacy, with the studio offering this role to Jeremy Renner. It is believed that Jeremy Renner will accept the offer, which will put Universal on track to start shooting in September. We reported earlier this month that Jeremy Renner was offered the part, although it seems that a formal offer just went out today.

Earlier today, we reported that Animal Kingdom star Joel Edgerton was being considered for the lead in The Bourne Legacy, an agent in the secretive Treadstone program. That story also indicated Universal wants Joel Edgerton to play the Huntsman in Snow White and the Huntsman. Just last week, we reported that Hugh Jackman turned down the Huntsman role, so it seems Joel Edgerton may now be the favorite for that part.

The studio decided on Jeremy Renner after two rounds of testing for the role over the past eight weeks.

Tony Gilroy will direct The Bourne Legacy from his own screenplay. Tony Gilroy wrote the first three movies centering on Jason Bourne (The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum), although The Bourne Legacy will focus on a completely different character while setting it in the same world as the previous Bourne movies.
