Movie Picture

The Mambo Kings (1992) -- starring Antonio Banderas and Armand Assante as Cuban musician brothers who take America by storm -- debuts on DVD two days before the August 18th premiere of the big new Broadway musical version. Arne Glimcher, who directed the film, directs and wrote the lyrics for the show which stars Esai Morales and Mexican born actor-singer Jamie Camil.

Jamboree (1957) – As soon as the 1955 song "Rock Around the Clock" sounded the opening notes of Blackboard Jungle, others were sure to follow. Jamboree tells the story of a hit romantic singing duo whose love affair is threatened when their feuding managers encourage them to go solo. The real excitement of the musical drama is in the performances by ‘50s rock ‘n' roll greats: Jerry Lee Lewis, Carl Perkins, Slim Whitman, Frankie Avalon, Connie Francis, Count Basie and Fats Domino, among others. There are 21 songs in all, with music cued by the era's top Disc Jockeys, including Dick Clark and Jocko Henderson.

New Jack City – the definitive urban gangster film starring Wesley Snipes, Ice-T, Chris Rock, Mario Van Peebles (who also directs) and Judd Nelson – arrives on a Two-Disc Special Edition DVD August 23 from Warner Home Video. Just as cool and topical today as when it premiered in 1991, New Jack City updates the gangster genre with a hip-hop twist. The cutting-edge soundtrack, which includes tunes by Ice-T, Queen Latifah and 2 Live Crew, was the first ever to blend rap, pop and R&B and produced simultaneous chart-topping singles in all three categories.

September 13th

Movie Picture

Ben-Hur, winner of 11 Academy Awards', will debut as a Four-Disc Collector's Edition DVD on September 13 from Warner Home Video. William Wyler's epic masterpiece has been newly remastered from the original 65mm film elements. The DVD now boasts more than 10 hours of bonus features including an all-new documentary on the film's influence with leading filmmakers including Ridley Scott (Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator) and George Lucas (Star Wars films), a making-of documentary hosted by Christopher Plummer, scene specific commentary by Charlton Heston, rare screen tests, a reproduction of the original theatrical souvenir program, plus the 1925 silent version of the film with musical score by Carl Davis. In addition, a separate Ben-Hur Four-Disc Collector's Edition will be available with a Bible study guide. Both editions will sell for $39.92 SRP/ $29.95 MAP.
