Producer Brian Grazer was one of the many Hollywood luminaries at the 83rd Annual Academy Awards on Sunday, where he revealed casting information regarding The Dark Tower. Here's what he had to say about Javier Bardem stepping into play Roland Deschain.

"Dark Tower, Javier Bardem, that's what we're hoping. We're in the process of trying to put that together."

We reported at the end of January that the Roland Deschain lead role had been offered to Javier Bardem. When asked if Javier Bardem has actually signed a deal to star in The Dark Tower, Brian Grazer gave this interesting response.

"He's locked in psychologically. He really wants to do it, so we're absolutely rooting for him to do it. We're really just focused on Javier right now."

It isn't clear why he hasn't signed on yet, although there may be scheduling issues at hand. Ron Howard will direct The Dark Tower from a script by Akiva Goldsman, which is adapted from the Stephen King novel series.

The story centers on Roland Deschain, a nomadic gunman who goes on quest seeking The Dark Tower in a last-ditch effort to save humanity. The Dark Tower will also be expanded into a TV series, which will air between the first and second movie in a planned trilogy.
