With production already under way on The Divergent Series: Insurgent in Atlanta, Liosngate has hired screenwriter Noah Oppenheim to write The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 1.

The studio announced in April that Allegiant, the final novel in Veronica Roth's young adult trilogy, will be split into two movies, although they have not found a writer for The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 2 at this time, or a director for the final installments. Douglas Wick and Lucy Fisher are producing for Red Wagon Entertainment, alongside Pouya Shabazian.

Shailene Woodley and Theo James will reprise their roles as Tris and Four from this year's Divergent and The Divergent Series: Insurgent in The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 1, which is set in 22nd Century Chicago where society is divided into five distinct factions. Tris is a divergent, a rare type of person who doesn't fit within any of those groups.

Naomi Watts joins the cast in The Divergent Series: Insurgent, The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 1 and The Divergent Series: Allegiant: Part 2 as the Factionless leader Evelyn.

Noah Oppenheim wrote the screenplay for another upcoming young adult novel adaptation, 20th Century Fox's The Maze Runner and he also wrote The Secret Life of Houdini. He also executive produces The Buried Life and acts as senior producer on Today and Hardball with Chris Matthews.
