The First Avenger: Captain America director Joe Johnston recently revealed that casting should start soon and now that seems to be the case. Deadline Hollywood Daily is reporting that Johnston will begin testing candidates for the title role in the film and the front-runners are Chace Crawford, John Krasinski, Scott Porter, Mike Vogel and Michael Cassidy.

The site is also reporting that Garrett Hedlund is another name being considered for the role but, as of now, they haven't been able to reach a testing deal with the actor as of yet.

It was also said that whoever does sign on for the role will be required to sign options for nine other films, which could include sequels, The Avengers film and other future projects down the line.

Heat Vision Blog is also reporting on the casting news and it seems Patrick Fleuger is another name on the studio's list for the role. They also report that Hedlund is having scheduling conflicts as of now, but may be able to make the testing round. Jensen Ackles is another actor who was mentioned and is having conflicts with the testing schedule as well.

Joe Johnston will direct The First Avenger: Captain America from a script by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. The film is currently set for a July 22, 2011 release date.
