The new Netflix movie trailer The Good Nurse transforms Eddie Redmayne into a serial killer with Jessica Chastain catching on to his crimes. Inspired by true events, the film is based on the killings of real-life serial killer Charles Cullen. The film will be coming to select theaters on Oct. 19 before its Netflix release on Oct. 26, but you can watch the official trailer below.
The Good Nurse is directed by Academy Award nominee Tobias Lindholm and written by Academy Award nominee Krysty Wilson-Cairns. It is produced by Scott Franklin, Darren Aronofsky, and Michael A. Jackman. Executive producers include Ari Handel, Glen Basner, Jonathan Filley, and Josh Stern. Along with Oscar winners Chastain and Redmayne, the film also stars Nnamdi Asomugha, Noah Emmerich, and Kim Dickens.
The official synopsis for The Good Nurse is as follows:
Amy, a compassionate nurse and single mother struggling with a life-threatening heart condition, is stretched to her physical and emotional limits by the hard and demanding night shifts at the ICU. But help arrives, when Charlie, a thoughtful and empathetic fellow nurse, starts at her unit. While sharing long nights at the hospital, the two develop a strong and devoted friendship, and for the first time in years, Amy truly has faith in her and her young daughters’ future. But after a series of mysterious patient deaths sets off an investigation that points to Charlie as the prime suspect, Amy is forced to risk her life and the safety of her children to uncover the truth.
The Good Nurse Is Based on Serial Killer Charles Cullen
The Good Nurse is based on the Charles Graeber book The Good Nurse: A True Story of Medicine, Madness, and Murder. It chronicles the true story of Charles Cullen, a nurse and serial killer responsible for the deaths of up to 40 patients during his medical career. Some experts predict that he could be behind many, many more deaths, possibly making him the most prolific serial killer in American history.
Cullen's story previously inspired the 2008 film Killer Nurse from filmmaker Ulli Lommel. More recently, it was the subject of the 2020 Sky Crime documentary Charles Culllen - Killing for Kindness. The news that Redmayne would be playing Cullen in The Good Nurse opposite Chastain was first announced back in 2018.
The Good Nurse will premiere in select theaters on Oct. 19, 2022, followed by its Netflix release on Oct. 26.
