Warner Bros. Pictures, apparently feeling left out for not choosing any release dates this week, has scheduled The Great Gatsby to open in theaters December 25, 2012. As of now, The Great Gatsby is going up against Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained next Christmas. This puts actor Leonardo DiCaprio in the rare position of opening two movies against each other, since he stars in both The Great Gatsby and Django Unchained

The Great Gatsby is adapted from the F. Scott Fitzgerald classic novel. The story is set in 1922 and centers on Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire), a writer who moves to the quaint New York City suburb of West Egg. He lives next door to the eccentric millionaire Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), and gets sucked into his opulent lifestyle. Carey Mulligan stars as Daisy Buchanan, Joel Edgerton portrays Tom Buchanan, and Isla Fisher plays Myrtle Wilson.

Baz Luhrmann is directing The Great Gatsby from a screenplay he co-wrote with Craig Pearce. Production is currently under way in Australia.
