As with any adaptation of a popular novel, filmmakers can't realistically fit everything from a book into the movie. Three characters from Suzanne Collins' original Catching Fire novel will not be seen in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. The District 8 runaways Bonnie and Twill, who alerted Katniss to the impending revolution and the existence of District 13, will not be seen in this adaptation. The District 12 peacekeeper Darius, who is sentenced to life as an Avox after interfering with Gale's whipping, has also been cut from the movie. Here's what producer Nina Jacobson had to say about these omissions.

"It's as agonizing for us to lose things from the book as it is for a fan. I want every single thing in there. But you know what? If you have to give up something in order to give more time to Katniss and Gale or to Effie as she starts to feel a conscience, you make the sacrifices in order to serve the characters and themes that are more essential."
