Liam Hemsworth is a front runner to play Gale in The Hunger Games It seems we could be closer to finding out who will star as the two male leads alongside Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games. http://movieweb.com/the-hunger-games-eyes-josh-hutcherson-and-lucas-till-for-peeta/A week ago today, we reported that both Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth were reading for the Peeta and Gale roles. Alexander Ludwig, Hunter Parrish, Lucas Till, and Evan Peters also read for Peeta, while David Henrie, Robbie Amell, and Drew Roy tested for Gale. Lionsgate has not made any offers to Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth yet, though.

Peeta Mellark is the character chosen to accompany Katniss Everdeen to the games, who also expresses his love for the heroine. Gale is Katniss' hunting partner in The Hunger Games.

Gary Ross is directing The Hunger Games from a script by Billy Ray, which is adapted from the Suzanne Collins novel.

The Hunger Games was released March 23rd, 2012.

Perhaps I'm clinging too tight to the image of him playing Miley Cryus' boyfriend in The Last Song, but the fact that Hemsworth is now being considered for this gives me a lot of pause going in.

For a novel that's premise sounds eerily reminiscent to that of an 80s action flick, a director with only 2 credits to his name, a sub-par writer in Billy Ray, and a female lead who's garnering A LOT of hype on the success of one film - all this upon hearing news that Liam Hemsworth is now the favorite to land the male lead - I'd say this has all the makings of a huge letdown.
