Showtime is set to put a new spin on its lesbian series. According to Reuters, Showtime's will develop a spin-off from its hit series, The L Word. The series' sixth and last season will premiere on the network in early 2009.

Series creator Ilene Chaikin is starting to develop the spin-off and it was said that one of the original The L Word actresses will star in the new series, although it wasn't revealed which actress it will be.

"We're still forming it," said Robert Greenblatt, Showtime's president of entertainment. "I'm sure I have a million e-mails already from loyal viewers about it, but we're still in the process of figuring it out."

Greenblatt also added that The L Word will end its series run with an open ending and if the spin-off gets picked up, the storyline will continue through the new series.
