‘The Little Mermaid’ Surfacing for a Live-Action Film

Joe Wright bringing The Little Mermaid to life It seems we'll see the mermaid Ariel once more only this time with a real actor portraying her. According to The Hollywood Reporter, director Joe Wright is currently developing a live-action film based off The Little Mermaid fairy tale.

The film will be the first English-language live-action adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, which has been adapted numerous times for both the stage and screen, most notably with Disney's 1989 animated The Little Mermaid film.

Abi Morgan (Brick Lane) wrote the script and it wasn't quite clear if Wright was developing the film to direct himself, or if he would only produce the film.

No production schedule was released but we'll be sure to keep you posted on any new developments surrounding this live-action The Little Mermaid project as soon as we have more information.

yeh i randomly thought about this the other day, thought it would be cool for disney to make them epic films, not kid movies, because you could make movies like beauty and the beast etc. quite interesting.

Name some smokin' hot red heads who would be perfect for this. I think it should be a natural red head, but there are some women who would probably look amazing AS red heads. Let's play, shall we?

they should go with the original story which had a horrifyingly unhappy ending.

that would be nice, i would even watch that.

I'd rather see a 'Splash' remake than yet m-o-r-e milking of 'The Little Mermaid'. zing!

Are you serious? I wonder if they'll go with the actual version.

The picture with this article looks like a redheaded Fathom :P
