Eva Mendes and Greta Gerwig have joined the cast of Derek Cianfrance's indie drama The Place Beyond the Pines.

The story centers on Ryan Gosling, a motorcycle racer who discovers, during a visit to his hometown, that he has a son from a one-night stand many years ago. In order to provide for his new son, he takes on a new gig as a bank robber, where he ends up running into an ex-cop and current politician (Bradley Cooper). Eva Mendes will play Ryan Gosling's love interest and baby's mother, while Greta Gerwig will play Bradley Cooper's wife.

Derek Cianfrance is directing The Place Beyond the Pines from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ben Coccio. Production starts on July 25, in Schenectady, New York.
