The Place Beyond the Pines screenwriter Ben Coccio has signed on to write the screenplay adaptation for So Cold the River.

The story follows a documentary filmmaker hired by a woman for a project about her father-in-law, a mysterious 95-year-old billionaire who lives in a small Indiana town. Once the director arrives, he learns about the town's rich history, but becomes plagued with haunting visions that foreshadow the return of an ancient evil. The original novel, written by Michael Koryta, was first published in 2010 by Little, Brown, and Co.

Kevin Misher (Carrie, Playing for Keeps) and Scott Silver (The Fighter) are producing for New Regency. No production schedule has been released.

Ben Coccio's The Place Beyond the Pines, which he co-wrote with director Derek Cianfrance, arrives in theaters March 29.
