Gus Van Sant has taken over directing duties on Matt Damon and John Krasinski's upcoming thriller The Promised Land. The film was originally titled Gold Mist.

The film is a Capraesque tale in which the actors play rival corporate executives. Matt Damon plays a sales executive who arrives in a small town only to have his whole life called into question. Matt Damon was originally directing the project, instead he will write the screenplay alongside John Krasinski. They will be rewriting a draft by Dave Eggers.

The director previously worked with Matt Damon on Good Will Hunting and Gerry.
