I dunno if anybody except me noticed this--probably not, I recognize weird things--but the avatar for this article when originally clicking on the link featured Depp giving a great mugshot of Jim Jones. Unsettling for the subject matter yes. Foreshadowing a future role? Probably not.

Looks better, albeit funnier, than I expected. Can't wait. As for his eccentricities, all of his out there roles embody different personas. The only real thing carried over is his natural charisma and upbeat attitude (even in Sweeney Todd, where it was subtle). However, when he does get into roles like this, he's not being so much eccentric as he is charismatic, rarely poignant, and free spirited, fitting the vibe of Thompson. Roles like this, Public Enemies and Blow easily make up for his more quirky roles.

I'm very anxious to see Depp embody the good doctor again! Thompson influenced the past few generations with his invention of Gonzo Journalism. His work and antics will live on to influence even more generations to come. I paid tribute to Hunter S Thompson and his work with my portrait and article on my artist's blog at dregstudios(dot)com

It feels like I've been waiting for this movie for an obscene amount of time. I can't bloody wait.

This is exactly what I pictured it would be. Love the trailer. Classic Depp.

that was way funnier than i expected. however, i'm with @dan1... JD's "eccentricty" is wearing a bit thin. as long as the whole movie isn't halucinations i'm in.

@Brizzy -- It really does - The humor, actors, and plot look absolutely phenomenal. And to answer your question: No.

Eh... the randomness is kinda funny, but I feel burnt out on Depp weirdness.

after so much weight, I am amazed that this did not disappoint me. In fact it looks great. And it seems to have more plot than Fear and Loathing C|8)

Still keeping the spirit of Hunter S Thompson alive in Depp, love how his voice is still the same in the narrative as it was in Fear and Loathing...the part that got me..." Try to look normal..." bounce, bounce, bounce...LOL
