Lionsgate has issued an October 5, 2012 release date for the 3D horror adventure The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, which is currently in production.

As of now, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D will be competing with a much different kind of horror project: Tim Burton's stop-motion project Frankenweenie, which also is slated for an October 5, 2012 release. The only other movie scheduled for release in October 2012 is Halloween 3D, which will arrive on October 26, 2012.

John Luessenhop (Takers) is directing The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D, with Carl Mazzocone producing. Here's what the producer had to say about the new release date.

"I'm excited to re-conceive this iconic horror classic in a contemporary setting for a new generation of horror fans to enjoy. Both John Luessenhop and I intend to deliver a new chapter derived from Tobe Hooper's 1973 masterpiece with the goal of making it as horrifying as the original, in 3D."

Despite production having already started, Bill Moseley is the only cast member set for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D.
