A collection of posters for Netflix’s upcoming third season of The Umbrella Academy tease the return of the principal cast of unorthodox superheroes. Unveiled courtesy of the official Twitter account for the series, each poster has a core character, from Luther to Vanya, using a titular umbrella to protect themselves from the mess being created by a flock of sparrows circling overhead.

Featuring the likes of Tom Hopper as Luther Hargreeves, David Castañeda as Diego Hargreeves, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison Hargreeves, Robert Sheehan as Klaus Hargreeves, Aidan Gallagher as Five Hargreeves, and Elliot Page as Vanya Hargreeves (the backs of them, at least), the posters are further confirmation that The Umbrella Academy Season 3 will center on the battle between the beloved team and their variants, The Sparrow Academy. While the symbolism might be obvious, there can be no stronger message than a flock of sparrows defecating on their heads.

Based on Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá's Dark Horse comic book series of the same name, the first series of The Umbrella Academy begins in 1989, with a highly unusual occurrence wherein forty-three infants are inexplicably born to random, unconnected women who showed no signs of pregnancy the day before. Seven of these mysterious babies are adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a billionaire industrialist, who creates The Umbrella Academy and prepares his "children" to save the world.

The second season picks up with the characters after they’ve been thrown back in time, with the siblings scattered between 1960 and 1963 in Dallas. In the series' final moments, the Hargreeves are shunted into an alternate timeline. They quickly come face-to-face with a group of shadowy figures known as The Sparrow Academy, an alternate version of The Umbrella Academy.

The Umbrella Academy Season 3 Will Have a Different Energy to What Has Come Before

While fans patiently await the arrival of The Umbrella Academy Season 3, Emmy Raver-Lampman, who stars as Allison Hargreeves AKA The Rumor AKA Number Three, has teased the beauty, emotion, and energy of their next adventure.

"I hope this summer because I want to see this season so badly,” the actress said of a potential release date. “We've started doing ADR and it's a massive season. There's just a lot of work in post that has to be done, but the little snippets that I've seen so far when I've been working on ADR in the studio, it looks incredible and it looks so exciting, and it just has a completely different energy. So, for everybody's sake, including my own, I really do hope it comes out this summer. I'm so ready to see it."

Starring an ensemble cast that includes Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, David Castañeda, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Robert Sheehan, Aidan Gallagher, Colm Feore, Ritu Arya, Kate Walsh, alongside Justin H. Min, Justin Cornwell, Britne Oldford, Jake Epstein, Genesis Rodriguez, and Cazzie David as The Sparrow Academy, The Umbrella Academy Season 3 has not yet been given a release date but is expected to land on Netflix sometime in 2022.
