The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus has joined the cast of the upcoming crime thriller Triple Nine from Open Road Films and director John Hillcoat (Lawless, The Road).

No details were given regarding the actor's character, but he joins a cast that includes Cate Blanchett, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Christoph Waltz, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Winslet, Aaron Paul, Teresa Palmer, Gal Gadot, Michael Peña and Woody Harrelson.

Matt Cook wrote the screenplay, which centers on a group of cops who are blackmailed by the Russian mafia to pull off an impossible heist. They realize that the only way to do so is by setting up a fellow officer to be killed, although their plan backfires when the rookie cop they set up to die foils their attack. The title refers to 999, the police code for "officer down."

Steve Golin, Keith Redmon and Bard Dorros are producing, with shooting is scheduled to begin this summer.

Norman Reedus just wrapped up Season 4 of The Walking Dead with last night's season finale. On the big screen, the actor will next be seen in Air, alongside Djimon Hounsou.
