The Witcher is a Netflix Original series based on the book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski and the video games. The series follows Geralt, a mutated monster hunter AKA a Witcher as he struggles with the hatred citizens have towards his kind. The series features a great deal of sorcery and magic, which surfaces in a number of characters, including Yennefer, Ciri, and Geralt. The first season of The Witcher was released in 2019 and was met with mixed reviews, but the series was popular enough for it to be renewed for a second and third season. Indeed, season two reportedly had over 2 billion watched minutes in its first week of release.

With a third season in production, fans have begun to speculate about the direction the series will take. While a number of battles have occurred to propel the plot forward, it’s expected that a number of characters will have more exposition on the full extent of their power, especially the Emperor of Nilfgaard, who has only made a brief appearance so far at the end of the second season. Until then, here’s every main character in The Witcher, ranked by power.

8 Vesemir

Surviving longer than any other Witcher, Vesemir has raised a number of strong Witchers himself, including Eskel and Geralt, both of whom are quite powerful Witchers. While his power may be fading with age, he is still an expert with his swords and signs. His survival alone demonstrates his strength and his ability to hone his power and skill in battle, skills which he passed on to future generations. Vesemir’s experience provides an example for his young apprentices, as he’s proven that, with his knowledge, it is possible to survive all the trials of being a Witcher and make it to be an elder. Vesemir received his own spin-off in 2022 called The Witcher: Blood Origin.

7 Tissaia de Vries

Netflix

Tissaia de Vries, the Rectoress of Aretuza, carries the heavy responsibility of recruiting young women who display magical abilities and training them to know how to properly use their abilities rather than letting the magic waste away. Don’t be fooled by Tissaia’s young appearance: she is one of the oldest sorceresses alive that manages to look young thanks to the elixirs that keep her physically young. While we see her use her power occasionally throughout the show, her position in the Aretuza is a true display of power, demanding respect from some of the greatest sorceresses.

6 Triss Merigold

Triss Merigold is a friend, ally, and potential lover of Geralt, portrayed by Anna Shaffer. While many may know this about her, she is more than just an ally and has powers of her own that she uses when she must. The series did not show much of Triss’ abilities until the season one finale at the Battle of Sodden, where she was burned, leading to a change in her hair color. Triss’ incredible skill was also shown when she helped Ciri unlock blood memories. A beloved character by many, Triss and her powers are expected to make a return in season three.

5 Vilgefortz

Vilgefortz is a mage within the Brotherhood of Sorcerers whose powers go beyond wielding magic. Vilgefortz also has an upper hand on his fellow mages for his understanding of politics, leading him to team up with Tissaia to take power after the Battle of Sodden Hill. His greatest abilities come out in the heat of combat when he combines his magical abilities with his skill with a blade. As such, Vilgefortz is a deadly adversary against even the greatest of odds. That said, his powers are only enhanced by his harsh morals, like when he brutally killed a wounded comrade in the Battle of Sodden Hill rather than try to save him.

4 Geralt of Rivia

Geralt of Rivia, AKA the White Wolf, played by Henry Cavill, is the main protagonist of the show and is considered one of the most dangerous men alive. After training under the highly skilled Vesemir, Geralt surpassed his master and has become one of the greatest living Witchers. With incredible swordsmanship and tactful use of Witcher Signs, Geralt shines on any battlefield. Having gone through a number of extra treatments and coming out on the other side, it’s clear that Vesemir taught Geralt about survival, only adding to Geralt’s overall strength. On top of this, Geralt is somehow able to make allies with ease, despite his status as a Witcher.

3 Yennefer of Vennerberg

With elven blood running through her veins, Yennefer of Vennerberg is considered one of the most powerful sorceresses alive, but that did not come without difficulty. Yennefer’s powers are so strong that she struggled to learn how to control the Chaos, making her one of the most powerful yet dangerous beings alive. Yennefer’s powers are often seen throughout the series, but they truly shine at the Battle of Sodden Hill, where she reigned fire down upon her enemies and also managed to re-route the Nilfgaardian army, effectively defending the Northern Kingdoms.

2 Emhyr van Emreis

Netflix

Unlike most of the others on this list, Emhyr van Emreis does not wield magic like any mage or sorcerer. Most of what we know about Emhyr and his power comes from other characters and how they speak of him: with a great level of fear and reverence. Emhyr AKA the White Flame is the Emperor of Nilfgaard who rules with fear, having commands over generals, armies, and even some of the most powerful sorceresses. While we only get a glimpse of this feared Emperor in the finale of the second season, we can only hope that we will see more of his sheer power and force in the third season.

1 Princess Cirilla of Cintra

Netflix

Princess Cirilla of Cintra AKA Ciri is the most powerful character in the series. Thanks to her bloodline, Ciri has been gifted with greater magical abilities than any other living wielder of Chaos. Ciri’s powers have been put on display on a number of horrifying occasions, including destroying the seemingly indestructible. Unlike any other sorceress on this list, part of Ciri’s danger comes from her inability to control her powers. Unfortunately, this makes Ciri an easy target for those who wish to use her powers for their own benefit.
