Yesterday, production on Marvel's highly-anticipated Thor: Ragnarok shifted from Village Roadshow Studios in Queensland, Australia, to a location shoot in Brisbane, Australia. We learned in set photos that surfaced this weekend that Brisbane will be doubling for New York City, but we didn't know why both Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Loki (Tom Hiddleston) had come to the Big Apple. Today that mystery may have been solved with even more set photos that offer our first look at Anthony Hopkins. There will be potential SPOILERS below, so read on at your own risk.

Long before production started on Thor 3, producer and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige teased that the story will largely take place in the cosmos, but he did hint that part of the story would take place here on Earth. Earlier this year, a rumor surfaced that Odin has left Asgard for Midgard, a.k.a. Earth, where he is dressed as a hobo, warning people about the impending apocalypse. It seems those rumors may have been confirmed with new set photos that surfaced on Instagram, which give us our first look at Anthony Hopkins' Odin, who certainly fits the description of the earlier rumor.

This would also explain why both Thor and Loki would come to New York, to find their father, but it remains unclear if there will be appearances from any of the other Avengers. One of the set photos that surfaced yesterday did hint that Doctor Strange, at the very least, has a cameo. At the end of 2013's Thor: The Dark World, Odin had disappeared, with Loki disguising himself as the Allfather, leaving Odin's fate a mystery. It has been said that Odin is practically impossible to kill, although it would be possible to kill him during his Odinsleep, described as a form of meditation used to re-charge the magical powers known as Odinforce. While it has been rumored that this will be the last Thor stand alone movie, it remains unclear if Odin will be killed off or not.

If that wasn't enough, we also have a new "before and after" photo from featuring both Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston on this set, along with another image of this duo side-by-side from the set of the first Thor movie. Chris Hemsworth also sent out a photo on Instagram, where he's seen meeting a young fan dressed up as Captain America. The actor also playfully dissed his Avengers co-star Chris Evans, claiming in the photo's caption that the actor "chose not to work out for the next avengers movie, all good he's still awesome."

It's worth noting that Mark Ruffalo already wrapped production on Thor: Ragnarok, so it seems that he doesn't make the journey to Earth with Thor and Loki. It's possible that he filmed some of these New York scenes on the Village Roadshow Studios set, but we don't know for sure. While we wait for more details on Thor: Ragnarok, hitting theaters November 3, 2017, check out the latest photos from the set.
