Ever since production started on Thor: Ragnarok on July 4, director Taika Waititi has been active on social media, regularly sending out new photos from the set as filming continues. Today the filmmaker released a new image that doesn't feature any actor or set from the actual movie, but it does tease that this movie may feature the debut of Marvel comics character Korg. No details were given as to how he'll be introduced into this story, but his inclusion does make sense, given recent plot rumors swirling around the production.

A few months ago, an unconfirmed report revealed that Thor: Ragnarok will essentially be a Planet Hulk mash-up, combining elements from the Planet Hulk comics and the Ragnarok comics. Korg made his Marvel Comics debut in 2006's The Incredible Hulk #93 during the Planet Hulk storyline, where he eventually becomes allies with Hulk. Many fans thought that Korg already appeared in the MCU, during 2013's Thor: The Dark World, as the stone creature that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) destroyed with one swing of his hammer Mjolnir, but it was never confirmed if that creature/character was Korg. And, as you may have noticed, Korg does bare a stricking resemblence to Fantastic Four's Ben Grimm, aka The Thing.

Taika Waititi's Instagram photo only shows a Korg keyboard pedal, with the caption "Watch this space #Ragnarok," so it's possible that he could continue to tease the presence of Korg. In the Marvel Comics, Korg was a member of the Kronans, whose bodies are made from a silicon-based structure that gives them a rock-like appearance, that gives them superhuman strength and an extremely long lifespan. In the Planet Hulk comics, Korg was enslaved by the Red King and forced to fight in gladiatorial arenas, where he was forced to fight and kill his brother Margus against his will.

While no plot details have been confirmed, there have been rumors that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) is banished from Asgard by Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and the new villain Hela (Cate Blanchett), who reportedly destroys Thor's mighty hammer Mjolnir. This leads Thor to go on a journey, ending at a gladiator planet where he is forced to fight the current champion, Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). This reportedly leads to both characters going on a "cosmic road trip," but none of those details have been confirmed by Marvel Studios quite yet.

It hasn't been announced who will be playing Korg at this time in Thor: Ragnarok, but whoever lands the role will be joining an all-star cast. The supporting cast also includes Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Tessa Thompson as Valkyrie, Jeff Goldblum as The Grandmaster and Karl Urban as Skurge. Taika Waititi is directing from a script by Christopher Yost, Craig Kyle and Stephany Folsom. Take a look at the latest set photo as filming continues on Thor: Ragnarok.
