There was a time when Marvel Studios would only shoot one movie at a time, but since next year marks the first that the studio will release three movies a year, instead of their traditional two, things have changed. Right now, two Phase 3 movies, Thor: Ragnarok (November 3, 2017) and Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7, 2017) are shooting on different ends of the globe. A recent Twitter conversation between both films' directors has fans shaking their heads, and wondering if the new Spider-Man, Tom Holland, will be featured in Thor 3.

Anyone who has been following Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi on Twitter before and during the production knows that the filmmaker has quite the sense of humor. After all, he is best known for light-hearted comedies such as the HBO series Flight of the Conchords and films such as Eagle vs. Shark, What We Do In the Shadows and Hunt For the Wilderpeople, which opened to rave reviews in limited release this summer. Even though this exchange is surely a joke, it's worth discussing, if only to prove that the social media rapport between the Marvel Studios directors is stronger than ever.

The whole thing started when Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts asked Taika Waititi if Spider-Man was set to appear in Thor: Ragnarok. The filmmaker added that he needed a "heads-up" because it's a "long flight" from Atlanta, where he's currently filming, to Australia, where Thor: Ragnarok is shooting. Taika Waititi jokingly replied that he only needs his (Tom Holland) head, and to "send immediately," which prompted Jon Watts to send a GIF image from the end of the 1995 classic Se7en, after Brad Pitt's Mills finds the decapitated head of his wife (Gwyneth Paltrow) in a box.

Does this mean that Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and the new villain Hela (Cate Blanchett) will end up decapitating young Spidey in Thor: Ragnarok? The chances are highly unlikely if not impossible, since it has already been confirmed that a vast majority of the movie will take place in the cosmos, far from Spidey's home in Queens. After all, this is far from the first time that director Taika Waititi has jokingly interacted with his fellow Marvel directors. Back in May, we showed you an epic Twitter exchange where Taika Waititi asked Ant-Man director Peyton Reed and Guardians of the Galaxy filmmaker James Gunn for explosion advice.

Since Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: Ragnarok started filming this summer, within just a few weeks of each other, it would seem quite impossible, from a logistical standpoint, to have Tom Holland fly out to the Thor set for some sort of cameo. However, it's possible that Tom Holland could surface during re-shoots and even appear in a post credit scene for Thor: Ragnarok, but that's only speculation. Still, the filmmakers are most certainly joking in this Twitter exchange, which you can see below. We'll be sure to keep you posted on both Thor: Ragnarok and Spider-Man: Homecoming as production continues.
