Melissa McCarthy is attached to star in an untitled Tinker Bell comedy project for 20th Century Fox and director Shawn Levy.

Both Melissa McCarthy and Shawn Levy came up with a fresh take on the Tinker Bell story, with Nick Stoller (Neighbors, The Five-Year Engagement, Get Him to the Greek) coming aboard to write the screenplay. Melissa McCarthy will play the title character, but no other story details were given at this time.

It remains uncertain if this will be Shawn Levy's next directorial outing, after he puts the finishing touches on Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb, set for release on December 19. The filmmaker recently became attached to direct two high-profile projects, Minecraft, which is set up at Warner Bros., and Forty Thieves that is housed at 20th Century Fox. Tinker Bell is said to be a high-priority project among those other films, but it isn't certain which will go before cameras first.

Melissa McCarthy most recently starred in the hit comedy Tammy and the indie feature St. Vincent. She will next be seen in Spy, alongside Jason Statham, Rose Byrne and Jude Law.
