Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy Sequel in the Works

A Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy sequel is in development says producer Eric Fellner The Focus Features spy thriller Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy didn't exactly set the box office on fire last year, taking in just over $80 million worldwide. However, since it didn't cost that much to make, producer Eric Fellner recently revealed that a sequel is in the works, with director Tomas Alfredson and writer Peter Straughan currently working on the script.

"We are working on another one. [Producer] Tim Bevan is putting it together as we speak with [screenwriter] Peter Straughan and Tomas Alfredson, so yes it's in development. It did unbelievably well and it didn't cost hardly anything. But things take time. Tim is passionate about making sure we do another one."

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy was adapted from the John le Carré novel of the same name. The author also wrote the follow-up novel Smiley's People, which follows George Smiley coming out of retirement for another mission. No story details were given for the sequel, although it remains possible they may be adapting the follow-up from this book. Gary Oldman was nominated for an Academy Award for his portrayal of George Smiley in Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.
