The new interviews with Tom Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer were recorded earlier this year, which also tease "what may lie ahead for Maverick," according to press notes. Paramount has been developing Top Gun 2 for several years, with Tom Cruise expected to reprise his role as Maverick, and Jerry Bruckheimer returning to produce. Back in January, Jerry Bruckheimer shared a photo with Tom Cruise during a meeting for Top Gun 2, teasing that this sequel may get off the ground, but nothing has been confirmed quite yet. The Jungle Book writer Justin Marks came aboard in 2014 to write the script, but the project doesn't have a director attached.
Tom Cruise also revealed that he wanted to figure out a way to work with the Department of Defense to feature real jets, with no CGI. Whether or not this will happen remains unclear, but Val Kilmer teased last year that he was offered a role in the sequel. Aside from Tom Cruise, and possibly Val Kilmer, it isn't known if any of the other Top Gun stars will return for Top Gun 2.
