Last month, Josh Duhamel, who starred as Lennox in the original Transformers trilogy, confirmed that he will be reprising his role in Transformers: The Last Knight. Just one day later, Tyrese Gibson took to social media, asking director Michael Bay if he could return as Robert Epps, and it seems that is actually happening now. Tyrese Gibson confirmed after the BET Awards that he is in fact coming back for Transformers 5.

The actor originally confirmed the news in an interview last night with ET Online, although he wouldn't say too much about the role. Tyrese Gibson is currently shooting Fast & Furious 8, so it isn't known when he will be done shooting that movie, to make the transition over to Transformers 5. Here's what he had to say.

"Let's just say 2017, summertime, it's going to be a lot of energy out there in the universe: Fast 8, Transformers 5... I'm here to take advantage of my America."

Earlier today, the actor also took to both Twitter and Instagram, posting a photo and a video of himself with director Michael Bay. Of course, neither the actor nor filmmaker would say much about the story, and there is very little we know thus far. The director has been unveiling plenty of new vehicles from the movie, including an updated version of Bumblebee and a new Vespa Autobot Transformer known as Squeeks.

Michael Bay is directing from a script by Art Marcum, Matt Holloway and Ken Nolan, who were all part of the Transformers writer's room last summer, where they hatched ideas for numerous sequels and spinoffs. Production started earlier month, with Paramount setting a June 23, 2017 release date. Tyrese Gibson joins a cast that also includes Mark Wahlberg, Isabela Moner, Jerrod Carmichael and the latest casting addition, Laura Haddock. While we wait for more on Transformers 5, take a look at the photo and video with Tyrese Gibson and director Michael Bay.
