‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ Earns $37.2 Million on Wednesday

Transformers: Dark of the Moon explodes into theaters with $37.2 million on opening day. After its solid showing in Tuesday night sneak peeks and midnight shows, Transformers: Dark of the Moon went on to have the best opening day of 2011 thus far. Michael Bay's 3D sequel earned $37.2 million on Wednesday, beating out the $34.2 million Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides earned on its opening day last month.

The $37.2 million tally includes the $8 million Transformers: Dark of the Moon earned in midnight screenings, but not the $5.5 million it took in during Tuesday night sneak peeks, bringing the movie's two-day tally to $42.7 million. Despite the downturn in 3D ticket sales, it is said that over 60% of Transformers: Dark of the Moon's admissions were for 3D screenings. However, even with the bump in 3D sales, Transformers: Dark of the Moon couldn't outpace the whopping $62 million that Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen earned in 2009.

Paramount Pictures is expecting Transformers: Dark of the Moon to earn between $155 million and $170 million between now and the July 4 holiday on Monday. We'll be keeping you posted on Transformers: Dark of the Moon's box office performance throughout the weekend, so stay tuned.

Transformers: Dark of the Moon was released June 29th, 2011.

@ghostman i was gonna make Kicker's dad like Craig Robinson and His mom Tichina Arnold (the lady who played Pam on Martin) and have a plot that make Mom who was pregnaut at the time discover the tomb the primes and one the Primes sends a "The Knowledge Flash" Flash to her but she doesn't get but Kicker does causing Kicker to excell in science, Mechanics, Math, Physics, and smarter than the Average Human

Great news now that film is making a lot of money, I hope this one will better than the second one and as good as the first one.

@Monkey-iron HP stands for Harry Potter lol :P I think having Sam be the father would be making him look like a guy who can't comment to a relationship. First he couldn't keep Mikaela, and now he's with Carly, then we make him get with some other woman? lol! How about we change Kicker's dad to Epps. Sound good?

I cant wait to see the final numbers for this film. I knew critics were going to do everything they could to bad mouth this movie. Nice try a$$holes!!!!! This movie is by far the best of the series and the best of the summer. I think HP will come in a very close second but I am not to happy that HP run time is only a smidge over 2 hours. Bay got it right this time people!! TF3 is a must see!

Hmm.. these are disappointing numbers. Especially with 3D to factor in . The original Transformers made $27 million and it wasn't a huge sequel and it had no 3D. I'm sure with the word of mouth it will hold up quite well. Watch for this to match the performance of Spider-Man 2 identically. They've posted similar numbers so far and they have similar word of mouth.
