True Detective star Erin Moriarty has signed on to co-star in the upcoming thriller Blood Father, less than one month after Mel Gibson signed on.

The story centers on an ex-con (Mel Gibson) who reunites with his estranged and troubled 16-year-old daughter, as he tries to protect her from a group of vicious drug dealers trying to kill her. While Variety's report doesn't explicitly say which character Erin Moriarty is playing, it seems likely she will portray the daughter. The plot is being compared to the 2009 action-thriller Taken.

Jean-François Richet (Assault on Precinct 13) is directing from a screenplay by Peter Craig (The Town), with Chris Briggs producing for Why Not Productions. Shooting will begin next month in New Mexico.

Aside from playing Woody Harrelson's daughter in True Detective, Erin Moriarty most recently starred in The Kings of Summer and she will next be seen in Ouija. The actress is currently shooting the New Line thriller Crawlspace.
