Alcatraz

(2012)

From executive producer J.J. Abrams (FRINGE, “Lost,” “Star Trek,” and the recent blockbuster “Super 8”) comes ALCATRAZ, a thrilling new series that follows a unique trio investigating the mystifying reappearance of 302 of Alcatraz’s most notorious prisoners and guards, 50 years after they vanished.

When San Francisco Police Department DET. REBECCA MADSEN (Sarah Jones) is assigned to a grisly homicide case, a fingerprint leads her to a seemingly impossible suspect: JACK SYLVANE (guest star Jeffrey Pierce), an Alcatraz inmate who died over 30 years ago. Given her family history – both her grandfather and surrogate uncle, RAY ARCHER (Robert Forster), were guards at the prison – Madsen’s interest is immediately piqued. When the enigmatic, knows-everything-but-tells-nothing government agent EMERSON HAUSER (Sam Neill) tries to impede her investigation, she becomes doggedly committed to it.

‘Alcatraz: The Complete Series’ Blu-ray and DVD Arrive October 16th

Alcatraz closed decades ago, but trouble still seems to resurface around the penitentiary for San Francisco Detective Madsen, Alcatraz expert "Doc" Soto and the mysterious agent Emerson Hauser. In Alcatraz: The Complete Series, Warner Home Video brings fans all of the action and suspense from the series that attracted more than 6.7 million viewers per episode and a Critics' Choice Television Award nomination for "Most Exciting New Series." Featuring brand-new extras including a behind-the-scenes featurette, unaired scenes, a gag reel and all 13 episodes of the thrilling series, Alcatraz: The Complete Series will be available for the first time on DVD and Blu-ray October 16, 2012 for $39.98/$49.99 SRP.

Alcatraz: The Complete Series chronicles the mystery of the "63s" -- the forgotten prisoners - who mysteriously disappeared from Alcatraz Island Federal Penitentiary in 1963. Now, unexplainably, these criminals are returning to the streets of San Francisco to repeat their grisly crimes - not a day older than when they initially disappeared almost fifty years ago. Enlisted by the close-to-the-vest Emerson Hauser (Sam Neill) and his equally elusive associate Lucy Bannerjee (Parminder Nagra), the driven detective Madsen (Sarah Jones) and fresh-faced Diego "Doc" Soto (Jorge Garcia) delve into the mystery of the 63s return, uncovering a much larger, more sinister threat. The series also features Robert Forster, Jonathan Coyne and Jason Butler Harner as the prison's authority with a shared histoy.

Comic-Con 2011 Recap: 158 Exclusive Interviews, 135 Stories, and 308 Videos

It's been one full week since a billion sexy nerds descended upon San Diego for their annual Comic-Con event, which has become the premiere Hollywood launching pad for just about everything in the way of entertainment. This was a strange year, as no one property walked away from the grit, glitz, glamour, and geek sweat of the experience better for showing off its wares to what has become a very bored public.

SDCC 2011 wasn't without incident, though. The scuffles in and around the convention center floor have gotten more intense in recent years. Back when Twilight made its San Diego debut, a young, passionate tweenage girl was hauled away in handcuffs for aggressively picketing the casting choice of Robert Pattinson in the role of Edward Cullen. Last year an attendee stabbed another audience member in the eye with a pencil after fighting over a seat. This year's big brouhaha actually involved one of the stars of, quite possibly, the biggest comic book movie making a splash at SDCC 2011.
