In the aftermath of a fatal car accident, Detective Michael Britten struggles with dueling realities in parallel worlds.
“The Little Guy”
While trying to cope with the grief of his son and wife in the two alternate realities, Michael gets a clue to the murder of a homeless man in one reality and tries to use it to find the suspect in the other reality. Meanwhile, Michael's captain begins to question his sanity as the events of the car accident come into question.
Britten's sanity is called into question when an escaped convict with nothing to lose kidnaps Rex.
“Kate is Enough”
While investigating an alleged suicide during an upscale yacht party with Detective Vega, Detective Britten runs into Rex’s former babysitter Kate. Later, in a case Britten is investigating with Bird, Kate appears again, this time as a suspect. Dr. Lee and Dr. Evans try to help him make sense of his run in with these two very different versions of the same woman.
Michael tracks a serial killer, but an FBI agent points to him as a suspect in his own case. Meanwhile, when Hannah considers moving to Oregon and returning to school, Michael's therapists believe the change of scenery will help him heal and put an end to his dreams.
“That's Not My Penguin”
In one reality, Britten is working with Vega and finds himself having to collaborate with Dr. Lee... from his other reality. In the other reality, Bird worries that Michael's lack of sleep is clouding his judgment, while Rex brings home his new girlfriend Emma.
Britten's interest in a tip linked to a case he was investigating before the accident worries Captain Harper; Hannah prepares for the move.
Crossover clues surprise Britten with a lesson in keeping romance alive.
A big football rivalry captures the attention of the police department, but all bets are off when the final play goes both ways in Detective Britten's (Jason Isaacs) two realities. In one world a dispute between rival fans leads to a murder in the stadium parking lot and in the other an in-the-red gambler gets burned. Meanwhile, Rex (Dylan Minnette) is suffering from a broken heart. Elsewhere, Vega (Wilmer Valderrama) and Hannah (Laura Allen) are planning a going away party for Britten.
Detective Britten (Jason Isaacs) and Bird (Steve Harris) look into what appears to be a case of gang violence, but clues from his other reality force him to look a little closer. Meanwhile, Hannah (Laura Allen) uses her intuition to talk through a tough situation with Rex's (Dylan Minnette) girlfriend Emma (Daniela Bobadilla). Later, Captain Harper (guest star Laura Innes) finds herself having to take back a promise and Detective Vega (Wilmer Valderrama) is planning Britten's going away party.
“Say Hello to My Little Friend”
A strange dream disrupts Detective Britten's ability to switch to his other reality and the appearance of a mysterious man, (guest star Kevin Weisman) causes him distress. Soon memories of the accident begin to surface and Britten has to come to grips with one of his losses. Later, Captain Harper (guest star Laura Innes) shows growing concern over his erratic behavior. Meanwhile, Hannah (Laura Allen) works to mend the ties between Emma (Daniela Bobadilla) and her family.
Detective Britten (Jason Isaacs) doesn't know who to trust when the truth behind the accident begins to reveal itself and a high-ranking conspiracy threatens both of his realities. In a moment of frustration, Britten decides to take the law into his own hands and goes after Detective Hawkins (guest star Kevin Weisman), putting himself and Bird (Steve Harris) in the crosshairs of the conspirators. Captain Harper (guest star Laura Innes) is instructed to clean up the mess. Later, when questioned about his partner, Detective Vega (Wilmer Valderrama) begins to have concerns about his Captain's intentions.
“Turtles All the Way Down”
The entire police force is on a man hunt for Detective Britten (Jason Isaacs) who relentlessly works to bring down the conspirators who tore his family apart. Britten trusts no one and time is running out as he gets closer to the truth. Bird (Steve Harris) and Detective Vega (Wilmer Valderrama) decide to help their struggling partner. When Britten's worlds begin to clash, bringing together the dueling psychiatrists, Dr. Lee (BD Wong) and Dr. Evans (Cherry Jones) in an unlikely debate that forces him to choose his path. Meanwhile, Captain Harper (guest star Laura Innes) is forced to face her truth.
