Zach Braff to Exit Scrubs After Eighth Season

Source:  Variety
After seven seasons on NBC, the comedy Scrubs is moving to ABC for its eighth season. According to Variety, while this isn't necessarily the final year of the show, it will definitely be actor Zach Braff's last turn as the series' lead actor.

Braff stated that he would likely return as a guest star if the show continues on into a ninth season on ABC. He also hinted that he would like to direct a few of those future episodes. Showrunner Bill Lawrence stated, "The end of the show will be about J.D. leaving the hospital. When you leave, it's about holding on to your relationships."

Asked how long he thought the series would continue, Lawrence joked, "You can't kill this show. Next year we'll be on CBS." Most of the eighth season is already in the can, and will air sometime early next year.

JD is Scrubs. You cant just bring charlie sheen in and say its gonna work! (spin city) the characters and stories are phenomenal..but its all nothing w/o JD. from what i heard they wanted to wrap it in 3 eps easily but NBC were being jerks...so ABC (ie. Buena Vista ie. Disney...who owns the show) took it to make it right but wanted to prolong it...which they are doing and its good and all b/c this show is the best sitcom i have ever seen, but if its gotta end, and if zach braff wants to move on well then so be it...move on but end it right where it needs to end. if this show goes on after season eight w/o JD ill give it a look or two..but i really think it wont work.....this was zach's start. and he made the show. to say he wants to leave it is an upset to fans b/c he selfishly is pursuing other things (movie career)and isn't giving a thought as to how much the show has impacted people. its just a show to him i guess....

Ok, Dr. Cox is fing hilarious. Janitor is pretty funny too. They would just have to Create a Character to annoy them both as much as JD.

I'm w/ ya on dr.cox, err. I have 5 tv idols: john stewart and stephen colbert for pointing out the ridiculousness in this world and the media while still keeping it funny(plus, i love colbert's egotistical attitude), matt stone and trey parker for giving us a show that's not afraid to start controversy, and Dr. Cox.

The show should end w/o braff. The cast members are what makes the show worthwhile, they're great.

I still like the show, but without Braff, what's the point. What, are they going to make it like ER?
