Jason Goldberg, who co-created the hit MTV series Punk'd with Ashton Kutcher, has joined forced with STX Entertainment for a series of celebrity prank movies. There is no title for the project yet, but sources claim that each movie will be produced for just $5 million apiece, with plans to release each of them on or around April Fools Day. Warner Bros. is also backing the project and providing international distribution for the untitled project.
Insiders claim that each movie will feature either 9 or 10 segments that focus on a wide range of celebrities from comedians, dramatic actors, music and sports figures. It isn't known if Jason Goldberg himself will write these segments, or who will come on board as the director. MTV has confirmed that the reality series Punk'd will be returning to the network, although it is not known who will host the show. Series creators Ashton Kutcher and Jason Goldberg are on board as executive producers, but Ashton Kutcher will not be hosting since he is still shooting this current season of Two and a Half Men.
The network is said to announce the host of Punk'd during its New Year's Eve celebration on December 31. MTV's realty prank show Punk'd, which is hosted by Ashton Kutcher, will go into TV syndication in the fall of 2008. According to Variety, twenty-two episodes will be made available to local affiliates for the 2008-09 season.
