The thrilling and terrifying journey of the Winchester Brothers continues with the fourth season of "Supernatural" on The CW.

Twenty-five years ago, Sam Winchester (Jared Padalecki) and Dean Winchester (Jensen Ackles) lost their mother to a mysterious and demonic supernatural force. Subsequently, their father John (Jeffrey Dean Morgan, "Grey's Anatomy") raised them to be soldiers. He taught them about the paranormal evil that lives in the dark corners and on the back roads of America...and he taught them how to kill it.

Sam and Dean spent their lives on the road, cruising America's highways in their 1967 Chevy Impala, battling supernatural threats and searching for the demon that killed their mother. Together with their father, they finally closed in on that demon. Ultimately, they brought the demon down, but they paid dearly for it. First, their father lost his life. And then Sam, too, was killed in the fight. Unable to go on without his brother, Dean made the ultimate sacrifice. He summoned a deal-making Crossroads Demon and exchanged his soul for the life of his brother. The deal brought Sam back to life ─ but left Dean with a single year to live.

As the year wore on, the brothers became increasingly desperate in their attempts to find a loophole in Dean's deal. But nothing worked. And finally, at the stroke of midnight, hellhounds came to collect on Dean's deal; he was dragged, kicking and screaming, to Hell.

Now, it's four months later. Dean wakes in a pine box. He's been freed from hell. But how? And by what? He reunites with Sam, and as they puzzle out his resurrection, they hit the road, battling the supernatural wherever they go: malevolent spirits; the terrifying demonic origin of Halloween; Dracula himself; even a drunk, heavily armed, 7-foot-tall teddy bear. Meanwhile, the brothers contend with new mysteries. What happened to Dean while he was in Hell, and why can't he remember it? It soon becomes clear that Sam is hiding secrets of his own, starting with the truth of what happened over the four months Dean was gone. As the brothers answer these questions, they also face a dire threat. There are whispers that a certain demon will soon be freed from his prison deep in Hell. Lucifer himself. And if Sam and Dean can't stop it ─ if Lucifer walks free ─ he'll bring on the Apocalypse...
