Since premiering in 2009, Southland has redefined the police drama with its raw, authentic look at the lives and work of Los Angeles detectives and beat cops. Shot on location in the streets and neighborhoods of Los Angeles, Southland captures a realistic, natural environment where similar situations can and often do occur in real life.
In Southland, Cudlitz plays Officer John Cooper, a recovering addict who, this season, starts to wonder what he has really accomplished after more than 20 years on the force. Hatosy plays Officer Sammy Bryant, a detective-turned-beat-cop facing a whole new set of problems from his estranged wife. King plays Detective Lydia Adams, who meets probably the biggest challenge of her life – becoming a mother. And McKenzie is Officer Ben Sherman, whose growing maturity as a cop brings a darker attitude and increased tension between him and his partner, Sammy.
Now a series regular, four-season veteran Howell plays Officer “Dewey” Dudek, a recovering alcoholic who revels in his unpredictable behavior and off-color remarks. Missick reprises his recurring role from last season as Detective Ruben Robinson, who provides some experienced parental insight for his partner, Lydia. Bergl will return as Tammi Bryant, who has brought nothing but trouble upon her soon-to-be ex-husband, Sammy. And Caldwell will return in her recurring role as Lydia’s caring but sometimes intrusive mother.
New this season on Southland, Murray is set to appear in a two-episode arc as Dave Mendoza, a likable cop who is a bit of a loose cannon and whose off-duty behavior may not always be the best influence on Ben. Ruivivar will play Lucero, a veteran cop who was born in Mexico and raised in East L.A. And Monroe will play a new love interest for Ben.
Southland, the acclaimed fast-moving series that takes you inside the lives of Los Angeles cops, criminals, victims and their families, continues with more action and intense drama. Last season, veteran cop John Cooper grew more dependent on painkillers, jeopardizing his ability to properly train rookie Ben Sherman. Detective Lydia Adams, a seasoned officer, made steps to advance her personal life -- but at the cost of losing her partner's trust.
This season on SOUTHLAND, Lydia has difficulty adjusting to her mother's return home from Europe with a new boyfriend in tow. The relationship forces Lydia to consider her own life and the fact that remains a single woman. Meanwhile, Ben continues to come into his own as a cop, but he feels increasing pressure to intervene in John's addiction. And Sammy and his wife face a major life change that could have devastating consequences for their marriage.
A raw and authentic look into the Los Angeles crime scene, Season Two of SOUTHLAND goes even further inside the lives of cops, criminals, victims and their families. Hardened LAPD veteran John Cooper is partnered with rookie officer Ben Sherman-an on-the-job training that only reinforces the reality that being out on the field is nothing like his preparation at the Academy. Detective Lydia Adams must balance her hardened professional life with a more nurturing one at home. Detective "Sal" Salinger oversees the activities of fellow gang detectives, Nate Moretta and Sammy Bryant. While Chickie Brown works to become the first female member of SWAT.
SOUTHLAND, a raw and authentic look into a Los Angeles police unit, from John Wells. From the beaches of Malibu to the streets of East L.A., this fast-moving drama takes viewers inside the lives of cops, criminals, victims and their families. John Cooper (Band of Brothers' Michael Cudlitz) is a seasoned Los Angeles cop assigned to train young rookie Ben Sherman (The O.C.'s Ben McKenzie). And although Cooper's harsh, tell-it-like-it-is approach often leaves Ben questioning whether he has what it takes to be a cop, he remains on the force.
