Legends

Excitement ripples through the gladiator camp when a new festival of games is announced at the end of training. However, when the fight card is revealed, Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) is dismayed to find himself fighting in the lowest match against Varro (Jai Courtney), earning a mere pittance, while his rival Crixus (Manu Bennett) is fighting in the primus- the best match of the day. At the party the night before the fight, Spartacus decides to take the matter into his own hands when he purposefully attacks Crixus in front of the assembled guests who call for the fight to be continued in the arena the next day, leaving Batiatus (John Hannah) no other choice but to pair them together.

The Thing In The Pit

After Spartacus’s dismal fight against Crixus, Batiatus decides to send him to the fight pits, where the only rule is to fight to the death. After Spartacus wins his first fight, he returns to the ludus and tells Doctore (Peter Mensah) that he will fight his way back to being a gladiator. But when he learns he will not live much longer, Spartacus goes to Batiatus and offers to lose his next fight, accepting certain death, in exchange for him to bet heavily against him and use the money to find Sura (Erin Cummings) and bring her to the Ludus.

Shadow Games

With renewed hope towards finding his wife, Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) dedicates himself anew to training. Desperate for patronage from Magistrate Calavius (John Bach), Batiatus (John Hannah), has reluctantly agreed to pair Spartacus and his bitter enemy Crixus (Manu Bennett) in a gladiatorial fight to the death with the legendary gladiator Theokoles, against whom only one fighter has survived, Doctore (Peter Mensah).

Meanwhile, Lucretia (Lucy Lawless) is fretful that her illicit lover, Crixus, might perish in the arena, forever leaving her childless. The fight is brutal, intense and unpredictable, and by the end, only one gladiator stands.

Delicate Things

With the drought now just a memory, Batiatus (John Hannah) stands before his gladiators and calls forth the Bringer of Rain, the Slayer of the Shadow of Death, and the new Champion of Capua: Spartacus (Andy Whitfield). As Batiatus strolls through his villa with Spartacus and Lucretia (Lucy Lawless), making grandiose claims of the empire he aims to build, he reveals that Sura (Erin Cummings) has been found and is on her way to the Ludus. Upon hearing this news, Spartacus tells his only friend Varro (Jai Courtney) that once he is reunited with Sura, he plans for both of them to escape. However, as Spartacus stands ready to implement his plans for escape and prepares to welcome Sura, his scheme painfully unravels.

Great And Unfortunate Things

Despite Spartacus’ (Andy Whitfield) suffering, Batiatus (John Hannah) says they must turn their attention to the future and proceed to mold him into a great gladiator. Due to Crixius’ (Manu Bennett) injuries, a rich patron who comes to procure gladiators for the games he’s putting on turns his thought to Spartacus. However, Spartacus will only play in the games under one condition: that he will fight alone. At the end of yet another victorious battle, blood-soaked and exhausted, Spartacus throws his arms up to the crowd and declares, “I Am Spartacus!”

Mark of the Brotherhood

Crixus (Manu Bennett) is not too pleased that Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) has taken his title of Champion of Capua or to hear that Batiatus (John Hannah) is considering selling him before word gets out that he has fallen so far. Elsewhere in the Ludos, Varro, (Jai Courtney), who sold himself into the gladiator life to pay off gambling debts, has fallen back on old habits, while Lucretia (Lucy Lawless) stokes Ilythia’s (Viva Bianca) growing passion for gladiatorial arts, even encouraging her friend to buy one of the newcomers.

Sex, intrigue and betrayal permeate life at Batiatus’ (John Hannah) Ludus as the triumphant Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) upsets the old balance of power while scheming by some behind-the-scenes players leads to tragedy. But it’s the sexual betrayals that cause the most uproar when rich women seek thrills from ever-ready gladiators doing their duty – all of them disguised by masks – engaging in a spirited Roman custom. However, when identities are revealed, death follows and spoiled rich girl Ilythia (Viva Bianca) finds herself in a precarious, horrifying position for a woman of her status.

Meanwhile, Crixus (Manu Bennett) and Naevia (Lesley-Ann Brandt) continue their illicit and dangerous liaisons, even as the former champion plots his return to glory.
