The Closer


Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson (Kyra Sedgwick) is a police detective who transfers from Atlanta to Los Angeles to head up a special unit of the LAPD that handles sensitive, high-profile murder cases. Despite a tendency to step on people's toes, Johnson manages to convert even her strongest adversaries with her unique ability to get to the truth.

A TNT original series, The Closer is created by the producers of Nip/Tuck and The Agency.

TNT Announces 2011 Fall/Winter Schedule

After scoring its most successful summer of original programming ever, including the launch of mega-hit Falling Skies, TNT is set to heat up the fall and winter with a terrific lineup of popular and acclaimed original series and a showcase of new original movies. The drama network's slate includes the return of basic cable's top two series of all time, The Closer, starring 2010 Emmy winner Kyra Sedgwick, and Rizzoli & Isles, starring Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander; all-new episodes of the hit caper series Leverage, starring Timothy Hutton; and a new season of the critically acclaimed Southland.

TNT has also unveiled the slate for The TNT Mystery Movie Night, a new showcase of contemporary procedural dramas set to launch Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT). The showcase will kick off with Scott Turow's Innocent, starring Bill Pullman (Independence Day, Torchwood: Miracle Day), Marcia Gay Harden (Pollock, Damages) and Alfred Molina (Spider-Man 2, Law & Order: Los Angeles).

TNT and TBS Announce Development Slate

TNT and TBS, which staged their Upfront presentation today in New York, are making bold moves to bolster their remarkably strong foundations in original programming. The networks are developing extensive new lineups of scripted and unscripted series and making a new push into half-hour comedy in partnership with some of the top talents in the industry, from award-winning actors to acclaimed producers, writers and best-selling authors.

This year marks the beginning of production of the final season of the blockbuster hit The Closer, starring Emmy winner Kyra Sedgwick. TNT confirmed today that it has ordered a 10-episode season of Major Crimes, a series set in the Los Angeles Police Department that promises to become television's next great crime drama. The seventh and final season of The Closer will include 15 episodes in 2011 and six in summer 2012, leading into the launch of Major Crimes, starring Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Galactica). McDonnell has been featured on The Closer as Capt. Raydor, who was often on a collision course with Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, played by Sedgwick. Major Crimes will be executive-produced by James Duff, creator of The Closer, along with Greer Shephard and Michael M. Robin. Major Crimes and The Closer come to TNT from Warner Bros. Television.

‘The Closer’ and ‘Rizolli & Isles’ Return in July on TNT

TNT has unveiled its summer schedule, including the Monday, July 11, return of basic cable's top two series of all time: The Closer, starring 2010 Emmy winner Kyra Sedgwick, and Rizzoli & Isles, starring Angie Harmon (Law & Order) and Sasha Alexander (NCIS). TNT's summer lineup also includes the network's two newest series, with the two-hour Sunday, June 19, premiere of the science fiction drama series Falling Skies, starring Noah Wyle (ER) and produced by DreamWorks Television and executive-producer Steven Spielberg, and the Wednesday, June 1, premiere of the light-hearted legal drama series Franklin & Bash, starring Mark-Paul Gosselaar (NYPD Blue) and Breckin Meyer (Road Trip). ‘The Closer’ to End with 7th Season

TNT's long-running, breakout hit The Closer will wrap up its phenomenal run with a final season in 2011. The difficult decision to conclude the series with season seven was made by Kyra Sedgwick, the Emmy-winning star of The Closer.

The Closer proved to be a resounding success after its debut on TNT in 2005. The series - which is produced for TNT by The Shephard/Robin Company, in association with Warner Bros. Television - was created by Duff, who serves as executive producer with Greer Shephard, Michael M. Robin, Rick Wallace and Sedgwick. In its seventh and final season in 2011, The Closer will reach its 100th episode. Production of the 15-episode season will start in spring 2011.

TNT has ordered new seasons of three of the network's hit series. The Closer, which continues to rank as ad-supported cable's #1 series of all time, will return for its seventh season. Rizzoli & Isles, which currently ranks as cable's #1 new series for the year-to-date, will return for a second season. Leverage, which is performing exceptionally well in its new Sunday timeslot, will be back for a fourth season. TNT has ordered 15 episodes each of The Closer and Leverage, along with 13 episodes of Rizzoli & Isles, with all three slated to start their new seasons in 2011.
