The League

(2009)

The League follows a group of old friends in a fantasy football league who care deeply about one another - so deeply that they use every opportunity to make each other's lives miserable. The series features an ensemble cast of rising actors/comedians. Mark Duplass (Humpday) plays “Pete,” the perennial league champ who is struggling to become an adult. Stephen Rannazzisi (Paul Blart: Mall Cop) is “Kevin,” a happily married father and commissioner of the league. Nick Kroll (Get Him to the Greek) plays “Ruxin,” who believes he is the smartest of the group but can't figure out how exactly the other guys are screwing him over. “Andre,” played by Paul Scheer (Human Giant), has continued to be the punching bag of the group since their high school days – a fact that hasn’t changed despite the fact he is now a successful plastic surgeon. Jon Lajoie is “Taco,” Kevin’s little brother, a part-time musician and full-time stoner with little interest in fantasy other than hanging with his buddies (whom he struggles to remember). Katie Aselton (The Freebie) plays “Jenny,” Kevin’s wife and his better half - especially when it comes to Fantasy Football.

The League was created by the husband-and-wife team of Jeff Schaffer (Curb Your Enthusiasm, Seinfeld) and Jackie Marcus Schaffer (Disturbia, Eurotrip) who serve as executive producers and directors. The series is produced by FX Productions.

‘The League’ Movie Bringing Fantasy Football to the Big Screen?

‘The League’ Movie Bringing Fantasy Football to the Big Screen?

The League will end its epic run with Season 7 this fall, giving us 13 final episodes. So, how will the gang go about trying to win the coveted Shiva this year? The series co-creators were on hand for their Television Critics Association Summer Press Tour panel, and brought along the entire main cast, which includes Nick Kroll as Ruxin, Jonathan Lajoie as Taco, Paul Scheer as Andre, Mark Duplass as Pete, Stephen Rannazzisi as Kevin, and Katie Aselton as Jenny. Jason Mantzoukas's El Brolo was mysteriously absent. They all confirmed that the next and final season will keep pulling its laughs from real-life events. Especially those revolving around the NFL.

According to Deadline, Jeff Schaffer semi-joked that they tried really hard to land Tom Brady as a guest star for their final season, especially in the wake of the controversy surrounding the 2015 AFC Championship game. There will be a 'Deflategate' episode coming up, with Jackie Marcus Schaffer teasing that it's easy for the show to stay relevant when the NFL keeps giving them such great material to work with.

EXCLUSIVE: Director Evan Goldberg Talks ‘This Is the End’

Was This Is the End the funniest movie of the summer? Definitely. Will it end up being the funniest movie of the year? It will be a close race, that's for sure. What sounded like a vanity project for some of this generation's biggest and brightest stars actually proves to be one of the most inventive, scary, and downright hysterical comedies of all time. Its this millennium's Ghostbusters, and it finds Jonah Hill, Seth Rogen, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride, Craig Robinson and James Franco all living in a house together, trying to survive the apocalypse.

The film marks the directorial debut of writing partners Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, who brought us the now classic Superbad and its equally iconic follow-up Pineapple Express. We recently caught up with Evan to talk about the evolution of the film, how he split up directorial duties with Seth on set, their next project, which is an animated comedy called Sausage Party, and the fact that Seth Rogen may play Bigfoot on TV very soon.
