“A Bloody, Beatiful Masterpeice!”

May 17th, 2010

To start off, "The Pacific" is right on amazing and it is one of the greatest mini-series I have ever seen in my life. Is it better than "Band of Brothers"? Well, in my very own opinon, I would say yes. -And here's why:

"THE PACIFIC" focuses on three Marines during WW2 and their battle against the Japanese in the Pacific. The three Marines are Eugence B. Sledge [November 4, 1923 - March 3, 2001], John Basilone [November 4, 1916 - February 19, 1945], and Robert Leckie [December 18, 1920 - December 24, 2001]. The three are brave heroes based on their remarkable true stories during WW2. The movie goes from the brutality of war to the love in romance and I even say that "The Pacific" might even be Oscar worthy for best Mini-Seires. It definitly has what it takes. Its all a first day buy for me whenever the box-set comes out.

Joseph Mazzello plays Eugene Sledge. As Eugene, Mazzello gives a breath taking performence and is not only brilliant in his role but Oscar-worthy as well. Jon Seda plays John Basilone. Basilone was a Marine who won a Medal of Honer for his action during Battle of Guadalcanal. He was killed in action on the first day of the Battle of Iwo Jima. He, based on what I've read on the internet, is still a hero around the world to this day. James Badge Dale plays Robert Leckie, whose character, belives in amunition and nothing else. During his time home he searches for love. Dale's performence, like all the others in this brilliant masterpeice, is wonderful.

The theme song to this is beatiful and each time I watch an episode of this I am always taken away by the theme. Its great and the sound of it swifts so deeply.

"The Pacific" is without doubt one bloody war series. Every episode offers a great amount of bloody action. As for the special effects and war scenes, they are outstanding.

The dark, sometimes slow-moving direction is very well done. There is definitly no problem when it comes to the direction of the HBO mini-series "THE PACIFIC". The ten episodes are directed by

Jeremy Podeswa.

"Hell was an Ocean away".

"Was there anything that the Marines have taught you while you where there?"...."They taught me how to kill Japs...and I got pretty damn good at it too!"

OVERALL, "The Pacific" is well worth the rent, hell, even the buy. Whenever it comes out on DVD I'll surley give it a buy. This is one hell of a mini-series and the story of this definitly captures the beauty and emotion that something like this needs. Watch this!

Yeah, I got the set for Christmas and just watched it again. I still love it, but, I think BOB is better.

I didn't feel the 'epic journey' feel that Band of Brothers had with The Pacific. Was it good? Yes, very. But it went in too many directions for me to really get into a specific character/real person's story in my opinion. Whereas Band of Brothers was about a select group of guys that stayed together for the most part throughout the European theater.
