Ty Burrell and Max Charles have joined DreamWorks Animation's 3D film, Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

The film will follow the adventures of a genius dog, his adopted boy, and their WABAC machine - a contraption that transports the duo back in time so they can witness historical events. Rob Minkoff will be directing from a Craig Wright script.

Ty Burrell will be voicing Mr. Peabody, the world's smartest person, who happens to be a dog. When his "pet" boy Sherman (Max Charles) uses their time-traveling machine without permission, historical events spiral out of control to disastrous and comical results. It's up to this unexpected team to put things back on track before the space-time continuum is destroyed.

Bill Damaschke, the chief creative officer at DreamWorks Animation had this to say about the project:

"The brilliantly comedic and paternal sensibilities of Ty Burrell make him ideal for the role of the beloved Mr. Peabody, and we are thrilled that he will join Max Charles as the leads of "Mr. Peabody and Sherman"

The studio is expecting a March 14, 2014 release date.
