United Artists are going into their new spy picture with three experienced spy vets on their side. According to Variety, UA and Lakeshore Entertainment have signed on 24 co-creator/executive producer Joel Surnow and 24 executive producer Michael Loceff to write an untitled spy thriller for the studio. Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) has signed on to direct.

It isn't clear yet if this will be a vehicle for Tom Cruise, who runs United Artists with his producing partner Paula Wagner. UA has been searching for a highly commercial project for Cruise since he and Wagner took over the studio.

"This is an original concept that both UA and I feel will have an impact creatively and commercially," Surnow said.

No production schedule for the film has been released.
