Universal Pictures has handed out an April 21, 2017 release date for an untitled project that will be the second movie in the studio's inter-connected monster universe, following Untitled Mummy Reboot, which is set for release on June 24, 2016.

The untitled and unspecified project, whatever it is, currently has the April 21, 2017 release date to itself, but it will come two weeks before Warner Bros.' Pacific Rim 2 on April 7, 2017, and two weeks after Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy 2 on May 5, 2017.

The studio launched the Universal Monsters Shared Universe back in July, with Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers, The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Chris Morgan (Fast Five, Fast & Furious 6, Fast & Furious 7) overseeing the franchise. Alex Kurtzman is attached to direct the Untitled Mummy Reboot, but no casting has been announced as of yet.

We reported in September that Fargo TV series creator Noah Hawley is signed write one of the Universal monster movies, but it isn't clear if he is writing this unspecified movie now set for 2017, or another project altogether. Universal had been developing a Van Helsing reboot long before the monster universe was announced, but we have no word if that is even a part of this monster-verse.
