Kenneth Branagh will direct the Untitled Jack Ryan Project and play the villain
Kenneth Branagh has signed on to pull double duty on the Untitled Jack Ryan Project, by directing and portraying the main villain.

We reported back in March that Kenneth Branagh stepped in to direct, after Jack Bender was forced to drop out due to scheduling issues. Now Kenneth Branagh is in negotiations to portray the Russian villain, who hatches a plan to destroy the American economy by making the dollar practically worthless. Chris Pine is attached to play Jack Ryan, a former Marine working as a financial analyst in Moscow, who discovers this plot against his home country and does whatever he can to stop it.

Kenneth Branagh is directing from a script that was most recently worked on by David Koepp. Adam Cozad wrote the original screenplay, with Anthony Peckham and Steven Zaillian also performing rewrites. Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing alongside David Ellison, whose Skydance Pictures is financing.

It isn't known when production will begin.
