UPDATE: 3/19/10 4:15 PM PSTHeat Vision Blog is now reporting that Chris Evans has been offered the role. However, neither Marvel Studios nor Evans representatives would comment on the story. The site reports that Evans' offer would include deals for three Captain America films along with other Marvel films such as The Avengers.

Original Story: It seems that three of the most recent candidates to play Steve Rogers and his superhero alter-ego are now the three leading candidates. IESB.net is reporting that Channing Tatum, Chris Evans and Sebastian Stan are the top three contenders to play The First Avenger: Captain America.

The site reports that Stan, who stars on the CW series Gossip Girl is currently the studio's favorite for the role. Tatum already has a franchise on his hands, with the G.I. Joe sequel currently being written by Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

The intriguing part of Stan being considered a favorite for the role is that Marvel Studios chief Kevin Feige has said in the past that The First Avenger: Captain America will be played by an American actor, and Stan is originally from Romania.
