Actors Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson have signed on to star in The Conjuring for director James Wan and New Line Cinema.

The horror tale is based on the true story of a Rhode Island family who claimed they, "lived among the dead," with friendly and evil spirits residing in their farmhouse. It isn't clear what roles Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will play, but it seems likely they will play the husband and wife.

James Wan is directing The Conjuring from a script by Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes (The Reaping, Whiteout). Peter Safran and Tony DeRosa-Grund are producing.

It isn't known when production will begin on The Conjuring.
