Taken filmmaker Pierre Morel has signed on to direct The Killer for StudioCanal, an adaptation of Tom Wood's (a.k.a. Tom Hinshelwood) novel of the same name.

StudioCanal has acquired all of the novels in Tom Wood's Victor the Assassin series, with The Killer set to be the first adaptation. The book centers on an assassin with no last name who is double-crossed after an assignment in Paris, as he is chased around the world by intelligence agencies, rival assassins and the authorities.

No screenwriter has been attached to adapt the novel, but the adaptation will be produced by The Picture Company's Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman, who produced Pierre Morel's upcoming movie The Gunman starring Sean Penn. Sentient Entertainment's Renee Tab and Christopher Tuffin are also producing.

Andrew Rona and Alex Heineman previously worked with StudioCanal on their action-thriller Non-Stop and The Gunman, which is set for release through Open Road Films on February 20, 2015.

Pierre Morel made his directorial debut with District B13, which he followed up with Taken and From Paris with Love. He is also attached to direct a remake of Dune, along with The Hitman's Bodyguard and EDF.
