Vikings star Travis Fimmel has emerged as the front runner for a leading role in Legendary Pictures' Warcraft video game adaptation. The studio hasn't presented the actor with a formal offer yet, but sources claim that he is their top choice for one of the project's four man characters. No further details have been released at this time.

We reported last month that the actor was on a short list of candidates for unspecified roles, along with Paul Dano, Anton Yelchin and Anson Mount. It isn't known if the actors are all vying for the same role or different parts. We also reported last month that Paula Patton is in talks for a role, and that Colin Farrell was offered another part. Sources indicate that while Paula Patton's negotiations are still ongoing, Colin Farrell's deal isn't progressing as quickly.

Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code) is directing from a screenplay by Charles Leavitt (Seventh Son), with Sam Raimi and Charles Roven producing with Legendary's Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni.

We reported in August that shooting is scheduled to begin January 13 at CMPP Studios in Vancouver. This adventure is based on the hit video game series, which debuted in 1994 and feautres players from all over the world doing battle in an epic war between the Horde and the Alliance. There have been several different versions of the multi-player online roleplaying game (MPORG) released since its debut, which features elements of sci-fi, horror and fantasy genres.
