You're forgiven if you completely forgot that War for the Planet of the Apes was happening. Ever since the first behind-the-scenes footage debuted ages ago, 20th Century Fox has stayed quiet on the anticipated sequel. That all changes with New York Comic Con 2016.

In an exclusive announcement, Deadline has revealed the studio's plans to bring their latest Apes sequel to NYCC. Though the movie doesn't hit theaters until July 14, fans will get an early look at what this sci-fi thriller has in store. And the Apes 3 presentation promises to be one of the highlights of the Con.

Matt Reeves directs War for the Planet of the Apes. It is expected that the first official footage will debut at the convention, though it's not clear if the first trailer will be dropping at this time. Reeves will be coming to the Javits center along with producer Dylan Clark and actor Andy Serkis, who plays central ape Caesar.

From the sounds of it, fans will be treated to a behind-the-scenes sizzle reel. The panel is happening on Thursday, October 6 at 8:30. The footage will be shown off at the Regal E-Walk Theater. Andy Serkis will be back in town the following night for a career retrospective that is happening October 7 at 3pm inside the theater at Madison Square Garden. He will be talking about his groundbreaking work in the Apes movies while also participating in a fan Q&A.

War for the Planet of the Apes is written by Mark Bomback and Matt Reeves. It is a sequel to the 2014 film Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the third installment in the Planet of the Apes reboot series. The sequel stars Andy Serkis, Woody Harrelson, Steve Zahn, Gabriel Chavarria, and Judy Greer.
