Warner Bros. is going back to Boston with its latest acquisition. According to Variety, the studio has purchased the North American rights to the upcoming film, Edge of Darkness, which stars Mel Gibson.

The film, currently in post-production, was directed by Martin Campbell from a script by William Monahan (The Departed) and Andrew Bovell, based off an original BBC mini-series by Troy Kennedy-Martin, which Campbell also directed. The film centers on a Boston poice detective whose only child is killed on the steps of his own home. The film also stars Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Bojana Novakovic and Shawn Roberts.

The film was shot on location in Boston and surrounding areas and the picture wrapped principal photography in November. Release plans for this film haven't been released as of yet.
