Universal Pictures and producer Joel Silver are moving forward on a remake of the 1985 teen comedy classic Weird Science.

Michael Bacall has been tapped to write the screenplay for this new version, which is being re-conceptualized as an R-rated comedy in the same vein as The Hangover. The original comedy starred Anthony Michael Hall and Ilan Mitchell-Smith who created the perfect woman, only to realize that she is much more than just a sex object. Kelly LeBrock, Bill Paxton, and a 20-year-old Robert Downey Jr. also starred for director John Hughes. The story was later spun off into a Weird Science TV series on the USA Network.

Joel Silver is producing alongside Andrew Rona, with Alex Heineman serving as executive producer. No production schedule was given.

Michael Bacall wrote the screenplays for Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World, Project X, and 21 Jump Street.
