Last night, legendary horror filmmaker Wes Craven passed away at the age of 76, after losing his battle with brain cancer. The director didn't have any film projects in the works at the time of his passing, but he had signed on to develop two shows for Syfy and Universal Cable Productions, adaptations of his 1991 thriller The People Under the Stairs and the book We Are All Completely Fine. Following the director's passing, Syfy released a brief statement, mourning the loss of Wes Craven while confirming that his projects will still move forward.

"Wes Craven was an icon. Syfy mourns the loss of this great visionary who helped shape an entire generation of horror. We are honored to have had the opportunity to work with him and, along with Universal Cable Productions, will continue to develop The People Under the Stairs and the book We Are All Completely Fine - projects to which Wes had already contributed so greatly - in his spirit."

The filmmaker's deal for People Under the Stairs and We Are All Completely Fine was announced back in April, with Syfy teaming up with Universal Cable Productions for both projects. The production company also released a separate statement, reiterating that both projects will move forward in his honor. Take a look at UCP's statement below.

"Wes Craven was a master artist, a gentleman and it was our pleasure to work with him. It is our intention to bring to life all the projects Wes developed at Universal Cable Productions. Thankfully these projects have benefitted greatly from his development and guidance since their inception. They will continue in his honor and spirit."

We Are All Completely Fine, based on the book by Daryl Gregory, tells the story of an enigmatic psychologist, Dr. Jan Sayer, who gathers survivors of five horror movie scenarios in a support group - and unwittingly unlocks the evils of her patients' pasts. As their traumas are brought back to the surface, they uncover which monsters they face are within... and which are lurking in plain sight. Wes Craven was attached to write the script, and set to direct the pilot episode, but it isn't known who Syfy will bring in to take over the directing and writing duties yet. Craven, Ben Smith & Jeffrey M. Weiner from Captivate Entertainment, and Sara Bottfeld from Industry Entertainment will executive produce.

The People Under the Stairs is based on Wes Craven's classic 1991 film of the same name. When a young woman goes missing at the grand Robeson Family Manor, her search unveils the centuries-old horrors that lie deep within the estate. It is a contemporary Downton Abbey meets Amityville Horror. Craven, Shep Gordon from Alive Productions, Michael Reisz, and Tracey Murray and Sara Bottfeld from Industry Entertainment are set to executive produce. The project will be written by Michael Reisz (Shadowhunters, Unforgettable).
